March Game
February was pretty crazy. I started a new role in January, and the workload has been ramping up. I'm at a point where I'm exhausted at the end of the day, and wanting to get away from the computer. In addition, quite a few social activities occurred during the month, which ate up more of my free time.
Dice Game
Unfortunately I didn't get too far with this game.

I did build the tray, a die that knows which side is up, in addition to some logic to roll it. The die can also snap to certain positions. Next steps would be duplicating the slot prefab, and turn them into a customer prefab with a timer.
I did spend a good amount of time coding the die. It's far from perfect, but it works well enough for the project. That being said, I have zero interest in completing the game. I just sort of lost motivation. Maybe it's because I wasn't really excited about it. This certainly hurt progress, as there were a couple of times when I knew I should have worked on the game, but didn't. Instead of forcing it, I think it's time to put it down and move on.
March's Game
I will say that making a die got me wanting thinking about making some cards. I enjoy digital card games, and have a fairly long history with M:tG, Hearthstone, and roguelike deck building games such as Slay the Spire. As a matter of fact, Slay the Spire 2 just came out, so maybe that's why it's on my mind.
Regardless, making a card game sounds exciting. Especially if I can make the actual card UI/UX enjoyable. For this month, I want to try the following:
- Make a turn-based card battle game, where actions are selected from a deck of cards
- I'd like to keep the scope to a minimum amount of content
- There will only be a single opponent: think of a single floor in Slay the Spire
- There will be a deck of cards and an energy system, but no way to add cards before or after the fight with the opponent
- The player loses if they run out of health, and win when they defeat the opponent.
- Cards will block damage, attack the opponent, or apply status effects
- The opponent will cycle through a predetermined series of actions
- Even though there is no way to fight other opponents or add different cards to the deck, I will design the game in such a way where adding extra instances of these things should be easy to do, in the event I want to continue working on the game
See you next month!
