Catching Up

Where has the year gone?

Work has been keeping me pretty busy, so sadly I haven't had much time to work on game development. I had to put March's game down, and it's very much a work in progress. There's some core features implemented, such as energy to play cards, as well as a way to shuffle the deck, end the turn, and draw cards every turn.

It does look like it's missing a few things. According to my list in March:

  • An enemy
  • A health system for the player and enemy
  • Win and loss conditions

I feel like if I add those I can say I met the requirement for a month's worth of a game. I haven't really touched the project since March, but I'd like to try and play catch up as I work towards that annual goal. That being said, I do have something I'm happy to share...

My First Game Jam

For the first time ever I've actually participated in a game jam, which has been on my to do list for decades. The main thing holding me back was confidence, but I decided to throw that to the wind and give it a go.

I made Dig Down for the Game Maker's Toolkit 2026 jam. I spent about 32 hours in total working on it. You can see it here: Dig Down

Far from the greatest entry on in the jam, but it felt good to actually try. Plus I got to learn a lot as I went, partly some coding knowledge, but mostly what it's like to participate in a game jam, which leaves me feeling ready for the next one.

The Year So Far

By my count, I'm at 3.5 games. I plan to finish working on March's game this month/early August, and thne switch over to something new I can get done by the ned of the Month. That Should hopefully bring me to 5 out of 12 games for the year.
